Spring has sprung, and camping on Orcas Island is right around the corner!

Time flies when you’re enjoying the great outdoors. We should know – we pitched our first tricked-out tent way back on the 2013 summer solstice. As the saying goes, it seems like yesterday. While we’re celebrating our 10th year setting-up canvas campsites for comfortable camping on Orcas Island, Washington State Parks is celebrating their 110th birthday!

We’ll open the tent flaps for our 2023 Orcas Island camping season one June 15th, but you can help Washington State Parks celebrate their birthday by visiting a Park on March 19th. It’s one of their Discover Pass free days, where no pass is required for vehicle access to Washington State Parks, along with DNR and DFW lands.

If you’re looking for more Discover Pass free days, get these dates on your calendar:

• April 22 — Earth Day
• June 10 — National Get Outdoors Day
• June 11 — Free Fishing Day
• June 19 — Juneteenth
• Sept. 23 — National Public Lands Day
• Oct. 10 — World Mental Health Day
• Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
• Nov. 25 — Autumn Day
