The summer solstice is this weekend! Not sure what that means? It’s the official start of summer on Orcas Island!

Celebrate the start of summer Island-style with the 20th anniversary of the Orcas Island Summer Solstice Parade!
Orcas Island parades are legendary, and the Solstice Parade is no exception. This foot-powered only parade is full of crazy costumes, happy smiles, and island character! Each year Islanders painstakingly craft their costumes to be as colorful, and whimsical as possible to excite both young and wise alike.
The parade starts Saturday, June 23 at high noon. This year’s theme is the return of the plants, animals, and bugs. The parade starts at Main Street, and heads down North Beach Road, winding its way through the village of Eastsound. Don’t be alarmed if you see a giant sunshine on stilts wandering its way through the streets of our little village!
Once the parade has finished its travels, there will be music and dancing on the Eastsound Village Green Stage. You’ll also find the farmer’s market in full swing with lots of yummy treats and fun island-made goods.
